Aluminum is the workhorse of pool fencing. Powder-coated aluminum doesn't rust, it shrugs off chlorine and salt splash, and the open pickets let you watch the pool from the kitchen window. It's the fence many Henderson homeowners pick when they want something permanent that blends in with block walls and desert landscaping.

Built for the 60-inch rule

A lot of aluminum pool fence sold nationally is 48 inches tall, because that is the model code minimum. Southern Nevada amended that to 60 inches for homes, measured on the side away from the pool. Ask for 5 ft panels and gates, and make sure the installer checks for anything within 3 ft of the outside of the fence, such as a raised planter or a step, that would reduce the effective height. See the pool barrier code guide.

Picket spacing matters

The model code ties picket spacing to rail spacing. If the horizontal rails are less than 45 inches apart, the rails go on the pool side and pickets can be no more than 1-3/4 inches apart. If the rails are 45 inches or more apart, pickets can be up to 4 inches apart. Pool-rated aluminum styles are designed around this, but ornamental garden fence often isn't.

Frequently asked questions

How tall should an aluminum pool fence be in Henderson?

Plan on at least 60 inches (5 ft), measured on the side away from the pool. That's the Southern Nevada amendment to the 2024 ISPSC for one- and two-family homes. Confirm with the building department.

Will aluminum rust near a saltwater pool?

Aluminum does not rust like steel, and a good powder coat protects the finish. Rinse off salt and hard-water spray now and then.

Can aluminum fence go on a slope?

Yes. Panels can be stepped or racked to follow grade, but the bottom gap still has to stay within the code limit, so slopes need careful measuring.

How much does aluminum pool fence cost?

HomeGuide's 2026 cost guide lists aluminum pool fencing at about $30 to $45 per linear foot installed, before gates. Your quote depends on length, gates and ground conditions.
